Stories of Sport, Belonging & Home
As part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival programme, Momentum Films presents a community short film screening celebrating the many ways sport, culture and celebration live within Scotland’s communities — through memory, movement, identity, friendship and belonging and the many ways communities across Scotland move, gather, create, support one another and tell their own stories.
Following an open call to individuals, community groups and organisations, this screening brings together a curated selection of short films that reflect the everyday life, creativity and community practice taking place across Scotland. Some stories may connect directly to sport while others look more broadly at community life, wellbeing, cultural identity, belonging, memory and collective expression.
This is not only a screening about sport in the traditional sense. It is a space to see what different communities are doing, how they are organising, how they are caring for each other, and how they are using creativity, movement and shared experience to build connection.
The programme will spotlight stories from individuals, grassroots organisations and community groups whose work often sits outside mainstream visibility, but is central to the cultural life of Scotland. Through documentary, fiction, hybrid and community-led storytelling, the screening invites audiences to come together, watch, listen, reflect and celebrate the people and organisations shaping community life during Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games summer.
This event is also part of a wider attempt to build a living community archive of Scotland during the summer of the Commonwealth Games — capturing the stories, people, practices and cultural expressions that make up the everyday fabric of the Games beyond the stadium.
The afternoon will include a screening of selected short films, space for reflection, and an opportunity for audiences, participants and organisations to connect with one another.
Dishoom Glasgow will be on site with complimentary refreshments for audience members and participants attending the screening.
South Asian Network TV (SAN TV) and Awaz FM join as Media Partners, supporting the programme in amplifying community voices and bringing these stories to wider audiences.
This programme is delivered by Momentum Films as part of Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 Festival, delivered by Glasgow Life, and supported by Glasgow 2026, Commonwealth Sport, the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and sportscotland.
