Volunteering
We currently have two exciting volunteering opportunities available for The Pyramid Community Shop.
The Pyramid Community Shop aims to provides the local community with easily accessible affordable food. We work with several partner organisations to help save quality food from going to waste and distribute it where it is needed the most. Each week we bring in, sort and distribute 1 ton of food. This is currently helping 120 – 140 local families on a weekly basis.
Delivery Helper
The purpose of this role is to assist in sorting and processing stock – most of which is a food delivery from our partner FareShare. Availability needed – Thursdays from 10am-1pm
Specific tasks of the role
- Receiving and unpacking deliveries
- Stocking shelves, fridges, and freezers
- Repacking and labelling of food items where needed
- Keeping the shop and storage area neat and tidy
- Ensuring proper disposal of packaging material to reduce
environmental impact

What is expected from me?
- Able to lift 10kg from the floor to a worktop
- Ability to work in a high paced environment
- Well organised, reliable and good at time keeping
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
- Being passionate about reducing food waste
Commitment
We ask our volunteers to make a weekly commitment for a duration of 3 –6 months. Reasonable requests for absence will be honoured provided due notice is given.

Food Surplus Collector
The Pyramid At Anderston is looking for volunteer to assist with surplus food collection. Availability needed: for 2 hours on Thursdays anytime between 9:30am – 3pm.
As a Food Surplus Collector you’ll pick up weekly food donations from our partner supermarkets and retailers. You’ll then bring the food back to The Pyramid Shop where it will be sorted and stored securely. Collections to be done by car or bike.

- We reimburse mileage for cars when collecting for The Pyramid, this is at 45p per mile.
What is expected from me?
- Follow all training you receive from us
- Be able to lift and carry relatively heavy crates of produce
- Reliability and good timekeeping
- Willingness to abide by The Pyramid At Anderston Policies
Collecting by bike:
- We have a cargo bike for you to use
- You should be confident riding a bike
- Adhere to bicycle safety requirements
Collecting by car:
- A full UK driving licence.
- A road-worthy vehicle with up-to-date road tax and MOT certificate.
- Fully comprehensive insurance
Commitment
A typical volunteer shift is 2 hours. For Surplus Food Collectors, Neighbourly circulates notifications of available surplus via email. You will be asked to commit to a certain time slot (eg. Thursday 9:30 – 11:30 ) and we will receive a notification if the collection is available. We ask our volunteers to commit to at least one slot a week, however, you are welcome to pick up multiple collection slots if you wish.
