Building Works Update
We’re delighted to share the news that our first phase of building works is nearing completion. Some of our community members have already been able to enjoy some time in the new and improved space recently – we look forward to welcoming many more of you soon!
Cost of Living Support
Are you struggling with the cost of living and need a helping hand?
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery and The Scottish Children’s Lottery, we can provide Cost of Living support to local community members who are financially struggling. Support can include small cash grants, household appliances/items, food support, fuel payments, clothing grants, bedding, and more and will be granted on a needs basis.
If you’re struggling to heat your home, feed yourself/your family, or to pay your basic living costs, you can apply for support. You can also use the application form to refer families for support if you work/volunteer in the community, e.g. as a teacher, support worker, etc.
Apply online today. You can also email us: COL@thepyramid.scot if you need help to complete the form or have any questions.
STUDIO FLOOR Exhibition: COMING SOON
Saturday 15 April – Saturday 29 April 2023
We’re delighted to be hosting STUDIO FLOOR this April, the first major exhibition in The Pyramid since we formed as a community organisation in 2019.
STUDIO FLOOR produces diamonds from the rough by excavating the waste remnants of two fashion and textile studios, encouraging creativity in sustainability and circularity. Spearheaded by ReJean Denim founder, Siobhan McKenna and award-winning couture weaver, Christopher McEvoy, STUDIO FLOOR aims to inspire fellow fashion designers to find ways to keep unwanted clothing out of landfill, helping to tackle the UK fashion industry’s 350,000 tonnes a year textile waste problem.
Using weaving and textile concepts to repurpose and breathe new life into the cast-offs from both studios, STUDIO FLOOR will showcase a unique 20-piece collection of new garments and accessories in The Pyramid’s main sanctuary.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday 15 April until Saturday 29 April. Save the dates for now, opening times are coming soon!
The Pyramid Shop – Closed 9 March & 10 March 2023
The shop will not be open this week, Thursday 9th and Friday 10th of March. This is to allow us to move to a temporary location in a different space within The Pyramid whilst we carry out some repairs and refurbishments. We will open as usual next week, 16th and 17th March. The access will be round the corner from the shop and we will have signs posted to help you find us.
If you need emergency food assistance whilst we are closed you can contact Stuart at kitchen@thepyramid.scot and we will do everything we can to help.
Food Waste Action Week
Monday 6 March – Sunday 12 March 2023
4.5 million tonnes of edible food is thrown away each year by UK households. Shockingly, 25% of this wasted food is due to cooking, preparing or serving too much – this costs UK households £3.5 billion each year.
That is why Love Food Hate Waste is dedicating a whole week of action to shining a light on how simple behaviours to reduce food waste can save time and money. This will ultimately reduce the impact of food waste on climate change.
The Pyramid Shop have put together a resource pack with helpful food waste tips and recipes for Food Waste Action Week – download your pack here.
